Book Review: Do Hard Things
Most Christians’ lives could be more described by a book called “Believe Hard Things” rather than “Do Hard Things”. Although the book is written for teens, I found the material thought provoking – that my faith should cause me to DO something for the benefit of God and humanity and not just hold “correct” spiritual truths in my head.
As a 40-year-old (yikes, am I that old now?) that will have teenagers of his own in a few years, the book made me think seriously about how a local church should participate in the Rebelution. Our church is so lucky to have a critical mass of children and teens in its first year of existence. I love them, but I also worry about them. The statistics of churched teens that drop out of in their twenties is sobering. Teens need to find more at church than just fun games and pizza parties. Not that I’m anti-pizza – it just isn’t sufficient on its own. How can we train younger generations to grab onto Christ and hang on for their entire lives, rather than falling away after they have to make do with “adult” church?
I hope you’ll grab a copy of Do Hard Things for your teen’s summer reading list. Parents should read the book alongside their children and encourage them to take the book’s call to action seriously. A series of Rebelution conferences are scheduled throughout the summer, including one in Louisville, KY on June 20, 2009. Join the rebelution!

I really enjoyed reading this book though it will change your life. It really makes you think about your purpose and your call of God. When your young people don’t expect you to do much with your life but this book says you can and you should. It says that we are not just teenagers we are world changers. I would recommend this book to anyone!
